WAMSS Sports has a full calendar of events throughout the year with a variety of team and individual sports available. Sport provides an outlet for stress and improves both physical and mental wellbeing.
We are the proud reigning premiers of the UWA Inter-faculty sports competition; a league which sees each UWA faculty competing in an array of adrenaline pumping sporting activities throughout the year, with match-ups being held weekly. Whether you're into classics like ALF, netball and volleyball or the more niche style sports such as ultimate frisbee, ping pong and The Amazing Race, there will be an opportunity to get involved!
The WAMSS sporting year kicks off with WAMSS Wipe out, a fun filled afternoon on the Matilda Bay Foreshore which sees teams from each year of medicine competing against each other in exciting events, accompanied by a sausage sizzle and music. It is a great example of teamwork, with any disharmony resulting in a dip in the swan river!
Interyear sports is a competition held throughout the year over several weeks. The different year levels compete against each other in beach volleyball, dodgeball, netball and Hunt Cup (5km running race). The winning year group (always closely contested) is then announced at the Medical Dinner.
WAMSS Sports also organises and takes part in inter-varsity events.
The tri-varisty netball competition is always a hit, with round robin competitions between UWA (WAMSS), Curtin (Medical School and Therapy Students Associations) and Notre Dame (MSAND). With all three schools involved and celebratory refreshments after the final siren, its a sportalicious night not to be missed!
The Curtin Physio vs WAMSS footy match is a hotly contested competition in which WAMSS plays the Therapy Students Association (TSA) in football. The TSA is a group of OT, Physio, Speech Therapy and Health Science students from Curtin University.
WAMSS also plays Notre Dame in football and touch rugby later in the year, a well attended competition with a great atmosphere and plenty of spectators.
In addition to all of the above, WAMSS always has a team in the annual City to Surf, as well as participating in UWA Relay for Life each year!
