COVID-19-specific resources

Everything about COVID-19 and mental health

We went to collect all the different COVID-19 resources we had seen floating around the internet, and found Life in Mind Australia had already done it for us!

It’s a very comprehensive list. It includes

  • General info about COVID
  • Mental health information sheets, in a time of COVID
  • Online help services
  • Specific help services: eating disorders, rural health, LGBTI, children’s mental health, and much more!

Our President is from rAdelaide and they have a pretty great website: https://openyourworld.sa.gov.au/
We love the holistic, comprehensive approach to their wellbeing advice.

Mindfulness Apps

As requested by students in the COVID-19/Mental Health survey.
WAMSS/WMH do not receive any sponsorship from the following companies (but perhaps we should :O), these have simply ones we'd tried ourselves, have heard others having good experiences with/had been recommended to us for sharing with other students.
If you know any others, let us know at [email protected] and we'd love to add them to our list!

  • Smiling Mind: a free mindfulness and meditation app designed to address all areas of your life that mindfulness can help such as sleep, focus, and relationships
    • Check out "Thrive Inside" their special COVID-19 feature
  • Headspace: free app (with the option of subscribing to Headspace Plus for full access) with guided meditations grouped into courses to suit everyone.
    • Two week free trial
    • Their COVID-19 feature 'Weathering the Storm' is free for all to access
    • (We have emailed to check, Headspace Plus Student Discount is only to US students :'( )
  • Calm: a free meditation app with a focus on sleep
  • 1 Giant Mind: learn to meditate in 12 easy steps, then unlock a 30-day challenge to make meditation a daily habit
  • The Mindfulness App: a really good paid mindfulness and meditation app
  • Insight Timer: free app with mindfulness and meditation exercises, as well as music for meditation

Other online services students have recommended to us

  • Reflectly: daily happiness and gratitude journal with both a free basic and a paid premium option
  • This Way Up: online self-help CBT course. Previously a paid service and used as a tool by clinicians, now made freely available to everyone to help cope with COVID-19

Taking our social life online

As above, WAMSS/WMH do not receive any sponsorship from the following companies, these have simply ones we'd tried ourselves, have heard others having good experiences with/had been recommended to us for sharing with other students.
If you know any others, let us know at [email protected] and we'd love to add them to our list!

Comments? Suggestions? We'd love to hear from you! If there’s anything you want to see, please email Lianne at [email protected] We’d prefer email so we get a notification when it comes through, and so we are able to have a chat with you, perhaps get more details if required.
