It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of a fourth year medical student at UWA.
He was an esteemed medical student and colleague, an enthusiastic member of WAMSS and our community, and a true friend. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.
This is a difficult time for all medical students and you are encouraged to seek support from each other and formally as you go through the grieving process. You can contact the UWA Counselling Service, led by Dr Anita Fourie, via 6488 2423. The supportive and understanding staff have the ability to see any student who needs assistance, in the immediate future or anytime in the coming months. A reminder that the UWA Counselling Service is free for any UWA students.
The Faculty’s Associate Dean (Student Affairs), Professor Roland Kaiser, is also available to see students and provide support. Please contact the Faculty reception on 6488 8500 for appointments. If you believe you or any of your friends need further assistance or counselling please don’t hesitate to contact Professor Kaiser directly ([email protected]) or ([email protected]). Your unit coordinators will be advised of this matter and may also be able to provide assistance if needed.
The WAMSS Vice President Internal, Melanie Still, who is also a fourth year student, can be contacted at any time.
