Red Aware Film Night
Come help celebrate the launch of the Red Aware campaign with a film night showcasing the compelling film 'We Were Here.' This film documents the coming of what was called the “Gay Plague” in the early 1980s. It explores the profound personal and community issues raised by the AIDS epidemic as well as the broad political and social upheavals it unleashed. 'We Were Here' is rated highest among films of 2011 with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95 rating on Metacritic.
Red Aware is a student-run campaign designed to promote education and awareness of issues surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic, both locally and globally, through a number of initiatives and events throughout Perth.
The Red Aware campaign is the lead up to Red Party, a huge red-themed party to be held on 7th September. This initiative is run by a team of passionate medical students who work to raise awareness and funds for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Since our inception in 2007, the Red Party has reached thousands of students and raised more than $40,000 last year alone for the Oxfam KwaZulu-Natal Food Security Program, operating in an area in South Africa where 40% of adults are living with HIV.
Come join us on May 30th at Cinema Paradiso and enjoy this eye-opening film, while knowing all profits are donated to HIV/AIDS projects! We also have a $100 restaurant voucher to give away to one lucky movie-goer!
