Well done to everyone who donated blood for the 2014 AMSA Vampire Cup. We had an incredible run this year – even fighting for 2nd FacSoc in the country at one point! It is wonderful to see so much enthusiasm especially this winter, as the Red Cross turned on their blood signal indicating that the blood banks were low. I hope the cumulative efforts of medical students all over Australia helped replenish their supplies.
With every donation 3 lives can be saved, and this year WAMSS tallied a record-breaking 96 donations saving 288 lives! Smashing the previous 2 years’ counts of 25 and 26. By percentage of students donating we came 8th in the country with over 10% of us rolling up our sleeves. Brilliant effort everyone; proving med students really do like to help people.
In terms of national results;
Congratulations to MeDUSA - Deakin Medical Students' Association for winning the Vampire Cup for the fourth year in a row, with a whopping 38.88% of their med students donating blood!
Overall, this year's Vampire Cup was the most successful ever, with over 1400 donations, saving over 4000 lives and beating last year's record by over 300 donations!

Many thanks to Daniel Dorevitch and Sammy White for coordinating and promoting the competition this year, and to every altruistic donator amongst us!
For more results and information check out the AMSA event page on Facebook. Notre Dame Fremantle still managed to sneak in ahead of us by percentage donations so I'm looking forward to next year's drive!
