WHAT IS IT?
Special Consideration allows things like getting an extension for an assignment or deferring exams.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR IT?
You can apply for this if you think that your academic performance was seriously affected by illness or other extenuating circumstances (e.g. sudden changes in living circumstances, death of a family member, recent traumatic experience, serious relationship conflict etc).
If you think that there might be a potential obstacle coming up that can affect your academic performance, apply for it! It does not hurt to have the Special Consideration form there in case you actually need it. It will make your life and the Faculty’s job much easier if they are aware of the situation early on, rather than if things do not go as planned and it needs to be organised on short notice. If nothing happens at the end, you can simply contact the Faculty to let them know.
Still not sure if you should apply for it?
Get in contact with your Sub-Dean and discuss your situation with them. They can help direct you to the appropriate person, and also support your Special Consideration application if required.
HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR IT?
Contact the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) before or no later than 3 days after an exam. Remember to include a medical certificate or other written report explaining your situation
It is also a good idea to inform your unit coordinator on what is going on.
